Hey everyone! Welcome to my first official blog post! Let me introduce myself. My name is Robin Lambert and I will be your interior designer today. I have so many ideas of things I want to share with you--things that I love, things that I have learned, things that could help people with questions--it's hard to figure out where to start! I suppose first of all that I should get some basic info about myself out of the way. Here's me in a very small nutshell:
I originally earned a degree in English, but my first college experience was really centered around all the Humanities, not just reading and writing. I enjoyed and participated in music, dance, writing, theater, and art. I actually almost chose to major in Art, but I thought there was no realistic way to make a living as an artist, so I chose English instead. (Because that's better. Lots of jobs for English majors, right?)
I had planned to go into editing and publishing, but instead chose to get married shortly after graduation, have four kids, and be a stay-at-home mom for twelve years, a decision for which I have no regrets! During this time, I also enjoyed working on projects to update and beautify my home and happened to get hooked on watching HGTV. I loved not only the creative design aspect of the shows I watched, but also the insight into the design business that some shows provided. I saw that designers were not only selecting pretty colors and furniture, but were also solving problems that affected people on a daily basis. I loved seeing the emotional reaction people would have to their home makeovers and I realized that the environment we surround ourselves with every day has a huge impact on our emotional well-being. As my kids got older, I found that I needed to be back out in the world again and I needed a creative outlet, so I talked my husband into paying for a second college degree in Interior Design.
Eight years later, I have had great opportunities to work in a variety of places within the design field. I have been able to design budget-sized model homes, remodeled historic buildings, and worked on small offices and high-end luxury residences. I have learned so much and I am so excited to be able to pass on what I have learned to my clients and anyone who reads this blog!
A word about my "word": we spent a lot of time at design school talking about branding. They reminded us time and again to select the words, colors, and images that we used to represent ourselves very, very carefully. As I debated which words I would use to describe myself and my design style to the world, I kept coming back to the word "fresh". If you Google the word "fresh", you'll get a bunch of pictures of food, but it means more than that, doesn't it? Fresh interior design means that every project I do is its own unique being. I am not a cookie cutter designer. I don't want to be known for a certain "look" that is duplicated in every project. I believe a designer must get to know their client and help them create a home that reflects that client's personality and style, NOT the designer's. Whether that means following the latest trends, or creating a classic, timeless look, I promise that your space will be designed to meet your needs with beauty and efficiency.
Thank you for indulging me by reading this whole post. Now, let's move on to talking about interior design! Off we go!
